OH MY! Ok, this week has been the CRAZIEST week ever.
Tuesday was just my normal, crappy, day at work. I was up talking to Barbara when we heard a loud noise. We both looked up, because it's usually the AC cutting on or the 2nd floor moving furniture. Except this time..the noise got louder, and then everything started shaking. I remember looking at her like WTF, and time seemed to slow down. I looked outside and saw all the cars bouncing up and down, and then Barbara's picture fell. Something in me snapped. Barbara grabbed my arm and asked "WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO"! ...how the hell am I supposed to know? We don't have earthquakes in VIRGINIA. lol.
I instinctively ran for my phone and called my mom. She was driving with Jaelynn in the car, and it was the first thing that went through my head-make sure they're ok. I got through:
me: OMG DID YOU FEEL THAT?!
mom: what are you talking about?
me: WE JUST HAD A F*CKING EARTH QUAKE!!"
mom: nah ah, what do you mean?
me: WE JUST HAD AN EARTHQUAKE! THE GROUND WAS F*CKING SHAKING!
mom: we didn't feel anything
me: OK I GOTTA CHECK ON AXTON.I'LL CALL YOU BACK.
I started to run out to the kiosk to check on Gale. The windows were shaking like crazy, so I didn't know if anything broke or if she was ok. Luckily she ran outside, and was safe and sound. At the same time I was trying to call Grandma's house to check on Axton. Insert panic attack. EVERYONE, of course, was on their phone trying to get through to their loved ones. I couldn't get through to grandma, Mike, my dad, ANYONE. We were evacuated, so I grabbed my keys and wallet and headed outside.
For the next 35 minutes I was trying to repeatedly call my family. I kept getting a busy signal, and no calls were going through. In a final, desperate, attempt I sent out a text Mike, my dad, and Misty "r u there, call me!"
About 10 minutes later my phone FINALLY started ringing! It was my dad.
me: OMG WHERE ARE YOU
dad: home.. (I don't get why he was so calm lol)
me: PLEASE GO CHECK ON GRANDMA AND THE KIDS (it was Tuesday, so I knew he was off)
....silence..we were disconnected.
So again, for the next 20 minutes I kept trying to use my phone again.
I finally got through to Mike about an hour after the earthquake, and he was fine-barely even felt anything.
Dad called me back-kids were ok.
Finally at 3:00 we got word that we were being sent hom, so I left to get the kids, then headed home.
When I got home I left the kids in the car so I could run in and make sure the house was safe. I opened the door...no Tyson. "Tyson?...Tyson? Come here boy....TYSON?" I finally make it into the basement, and he was hiding in a corner. Poor puppy was so scared! The house wasn't a disaster, just a few books had fallen down for the most part. Worst damage were my picture frames that fell and broke =(
...Fast forward 3 days to Friday night.
Axton had his first tooth poke through! His bottom tooth has a littttttle tiny white speck poking through. I noticed it at Misty's house, and sure enough Misty and Mike saw it too! Just shy of 20 weeks old, and baby boy is growing up too quickly! I tried to get a picture, but he's too much of a wiggle worm =(
Saturday:
Helllooooooooo Hurricane Irene! Right now it is 10:18 at night. For the most part today hasn't been too bad; rain and a little windy, but not too bad. The worst part of the storm is supposed to be here in about 2 hours, and we are all camped out in the living room. Kids are asleep, Mike is asleep, so that leaves me, my computer, and my DVR. What's better than that? There have been a couple of tornadoes near Ocean City, but hopefully we don't get any here.
I really hope everyone has been able to stay safe this week. I'm sure, like most, I won't forget it for a long time.
